About Us
At the Harrington Department of Bioengineering, we are entering an exciting era. Bioindustry is expanding at an ever-increasing rate in the Greater Phoenix metropolitan area, and the research and funding opportunities for our faculty remain at an all-time high. The department is well-positioned to educate students for the large number of new jobs that will result from this expansion. We are increasing the size of our faculty and facilities to ensure that we continue to deliver the highest quality educational experience for our students. We have an active industrial internship program and continue to secure research funding from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, DARPA, and other national, regional and local funding agencies.
Through the generosity of the Whitaker Foundation, we have strengthened our neural engineering and rehabilitation research thrusts and develop a new thrust in molecular, cell and tissue engineering research. This work is in partnership with Banner Health, the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale, the Barrow Neurological Institute, the VA Medical Center, the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), and our colleagues in the Biodesign Institute, ASUs Molecular and Cell Biology Program and other colleges within ASU. Additional research areas presently targeted for programmatic growth include biosensors and bioinstrumentation.
